...and we got some of that, whaddayacallit... memorabilia, well mebbe later we will!
Tiger Stadium was opened during the same week that the Titanic sank in 1912. Originally called Navin Field after the old man who owned the team, it became known later as Briggs Stadium and then finally the familiar (best George Kell voice) Taaahgar Stadium... but, no matter what you call it, the corner of Michigan and Trumbull has sure seen a lot of... well, Everything! Here's an informal history of our ALL-TIME favorite ballpark.
Always known as a hitters' park, the Corner was host to 7 World Series including the most memorable of all... the 1968 Classic where our boys came back from a 3-1 deficit to stun the St. Louis Cardinals. Too many other highlights from The Corner to go into right here but we're working on 'em... one of these days!!
Did ya'll know what year Jim Campbell closed down the bleachers because of some pretty rowdy fans? ... or just who holds the record for most balls hit OVER THE ROOF? We got answers to that trivia and plenty more fun facts to know and YELL! COMING SOOOOOON!!!
The last game at the Corner of Michigan and Trumbull was played on September 27, 1999. Here's the story of that game, and we've got a bunch of pictures, too. ALSO COMING SOON!
