The 1935 World Series matches up Chicago against Detroit who has never...

... won a Fall Classic. The 1935 World Series marks the 3rd time the Tigers have met the Chicago Cubs... they lost to Chicago in 1907 and 1908... would the 3rd time be the charm?

World Series Preview:
The Cubs came into the 1935 World Series red-hot... they'd won 21 games in a row in September... so the Tigers' work was really cut out for them. The G-Men were in full force for Detroit while Chicago relied more on pitching... having won 100 games to Detroit's 93, Chicago was considered a slight favorite against a team which had won its 2nd AL pennant in a row.

Game 1 at Detroit- Chicago 3 Detroit 0- Schoolboy Rowe pitches well, giving up only 2 earned runs, but Lon "The Arkansas Hummingbird" Warneke is a little better. Chicago leads series 1-0.

Game 2 at Detroit- Detroit 8 Chicago 3- After smoking a home run in the first inning, Hank Greenberg breaks his wrist trying to score and is sidelined the rest of the series. Tommy Bridges goes the distance to win. 1935 World Series tied 1-1.

Game 3 at Chicago- Detroit 6 Chicago 5- Jo Jo White's 11th inning single gives the relief victory to Schoolboy Rowe, who'd almost blown the game by giving up 2 in the ninth. Detroit leads series 2-1.

Game 4 at Chicago- Detroit 2 Chicago 1- Alvin "General" Crowder tosses a 5 hitter as the Tigers take a commanding series lead. Detroit leads series 3-1.

Game 5 at Chicago- Chicago 3 Detroit 1- Warneke leaves in the 6th with a sore shoulder, but it's enough to beat Rowe who pitches well. Detroit leads series 3-2.

Game 6 at Detroit- Detroit 4 Chicago 3- Goose Goslin's 2-out 9th inning single scores Mickey Cochrane to give the Tigers their first world's championship. DETROIT TIGERS WIN WORLD SERIES 4-2!

World Series Wrapup:
Despite Hank Greenberg's devastating injury, the club ralled behind tough pitching and very timely hitting to beat the favored Cubs. Outfielder Pete Fox led the club at .385 and 4 RBIs, while Charlie Gehringer was just behind him at .375. Tommy Bridges' 2 wins led the moundsmen... just think, we probably did them a favor.... if Chicago had won, they'd have a lot less to be crybabies about now! (I think they enjoy it!)
