The 1908 World Series featured a rematch between the Detroit Tigers...
... and the Chicago Cubs. The 1908 World Series brought us the first ever rematch as both teams repeated by the thinnest of margins... Chicago by 1 game and Detroit by only ½ game. Could Ty Cobb and the Tigers avenge 1907's near-sweep?
World Series Preview: Cobb and Crawford really made this team go, but how would they match up against that great Chicago pitching? ... another couple of 20+ winners in Mordecai "Three Fingers" Brown with 29 and Ed Ruelbach with 24 who paced their staff. Advantage was given to Chicago, but purely for entertainment purposes!
Game 1 at Detroit- Chicago 10 Detroit 6- Ed Summers takes a 6-5 lead into the top of the 9th, gets the first batter, but 6 straight hits later, he trails 10-6. Chicago leads series 1-0. Game 2 at Chicago- Chicago 6 Detroit 1- In a game scoreless until the bottom of the 8th, Bill Donovan surrenders a homer to Joe Tinker. Chicago leads series 2-0.
Game 3 at Chicago- Detroit 8 Chicago 3- Detroit finally wins a series game! George Mullin holds the Cubs down... Ty Cobb collects 4 hits as the Tigers come back in the 5th from a 2 run deficit! Chicago leads series 2-1.

Game 4 at Detroit- Chicago 3 Detroit 0- Mordecai Brown gives up one more hit than he has fingers as Ed Summers is the victim of another impotent attack. Chicago leads series 3-1. Game 5 at Detroit- Chicago 2 Detroit 0- Smallest crowd in World Series history- 6,210- watches an even more anemic attack of just 2 hits by Detroit as Tigers lose 2nd straight classic. Chicago wins 1908 World Series 4-1.
World Series Wrapup: Determined as they were to atone for last year, Detroit found itself on the short end of another mismatch... the Tigers' bats were held in check by superior pitching... batting just .208, even with Cobb's .368 figured in.
